Storytelling and case studies

You may have some experience in writing case study stories or it may be completely new to you. Either way, we’ll look at how your clients’ personal and lived experience stories can be used to showcase the excellent work your organisation is doing.

We’ll examine storytelling theory and techniques, and how you can use these to write a story your audience will really want to read. You’ll also learn how to research like a journalist in order to find the perfect person with a great story to tell.

Connecting with your storyteller

In order to engage your reader you’ll need to engage with the person who's lived the experience and find out their story, which means conducting an interview.

We’ll analyse the best interviewing methods, how to put your interviewee at ease, and the questions you need to ask in order to get the most interesting and relevant details. This module will also take you through how to select the best quotes from your interview to use in your story.

Writing your case study story

Your writing needs structure in order to give it the pace and flow which will keep your reader glued from the first word to the last. This module will teach you how to structure your writing and will tutor you in how to master the same clear, simple and effective language as a professional journalist.

Maximising your story's impact

Your case study is written and ready to go, but where and how can you use it? This module will look at creating content you can use across multiple platforms including campaigns, social media, impact reports, annual reports and others. We’ll also examine how you can use case study stories to secure media coverage, and how to pitch your story to a journalist or editor.
